How to keep your Android screen on
😴 Raise the timeout, or use the tool below ⏰
Android turns the screen off after a set timeout to save battery. You can raise that timeout, keep it on while charging, or use the no-install tool below in your browser.
Raise your screen timeout
Exact names vary a little by phone, but the setting is almost always under Display.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display (on some phones, Display & brightness).
- Tap Screen timeout (sometimes called Sleep).
- Pick the longest option available — usually up to 30 minutes.
Stock Android caps the screen timeout at 30 minutes. To keep it on longer while charging, enable Developer options › Stay awake. Some phones (Samsung, Motorola) also offer Screen attention / Smart stay, which keeps the screen on while you're looking at it.
Use this free browser tool
Need the screen on for longer than the menu allows, without unlocking developer settings? Use the button below — it keeps the display on straight from your browser.
Only works while this tab stays open and visible — not minimized, and not switched away to another tab.
Works in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Samsung Internet on Android. It keeps the screen on only while this browser tab is on screen — switch apps and the screen can turn off again.
Which one should you use?
Raise the timeout or use Stay awake when you want the screen on across any app. Use the tool for a quick option on a webpage that doesn't touch your system settings.
FAQ
Why can't I set the screen timeout to Never?
Most Android phones leave Never out of the normal menu to protect the battery. The Stay awake toggle in Developer options keeps it on while charging, and the browser tool below keeps it on without unlocking developer settings.
What is Stay awake in Developer options?
It keeps the screen on the whole time the phone is plugged in. Enable Developer options first by tapping Build number seven times under Settings > About phone.
